How to get there
Seeing the goal is the easy part. Getting there is mostly small, boring habits kept up for months: eating a little less than you burn, moving most days, and not quitting after a bad week. These guides from our sister site PopularHealth are a good place to start.

Before and after
What losing 40 or 60 pounds looks like, side by side, with how long it usually takes.
Every before and after →What different weights look like
Pick a number to see that weight on a woman or a man, how it changes with height, and what losing 10, 20 or 40 pounds from there looks like.
See every weight →How accurate is it?
It is a close picture, not an exact preview of you. The animated 3D woman comes in three body types (apple, pear and hourglass), each in 17 weight steps about 10 pounds apart, adjusted for height. The Black woman and the man are front views generated by AI from those same steps, in one body type each, plus a few heavier steps that carry on past the 3D model. Your height and weight pick the nearest step. Real bodies differ with muscle, age and where each person carries weight, so use it to see the direction and size of a change rather than your exact future shape.
The 3D woman goes up to about 250 lb (113 kg) and the two front-view models up to about 290 lb (132 kg). Heavier weights show the heaviest body. How the pictures are made.
Questions people ask
Is the body visualizer free, and do I need a photo?
Yes, it is free, with no sign-up and no photo. You pick a height, a body type and a model, then enter two weights. Nothing you type is saved, and your numbers stay in your browser unless you press Share this result, which puts them in the link.
Does it work for men?
Yes. Pick the man under Model. He starts at 5′9″ and 240 lb, and you can change both.
Can I use kilograms and meters?
Yes. Set Weight in to kg and the height unit to m. The bodies, the BMI line and the time to goal all follow.
What does 180 pounds look like at 5′4″?
At 5′4″, 180 lb is a BMI of 30.9, which counts as obese. The healthy range at that height runs from about 108 to 145 lb. See what 180 pounds looks like on a woman, or enter 5′4″ and 180 above.
How long does it take to lose 40 pounds?
At the 1 to 2 lb a week most guidance treats as sustainable, about 20 to 40 weeks, or roughly 5 to 10 months. Real progress is rarely a straight line. See losing 40 pounds, 220 to 180 lb for the before and after.
What is the heaviest weight it can show?
About 250 lb for the animated 3D woman and about 290 lb for the two front-view models. Above that, it shows the heaviest body it has.
Is this a medical tool?
No. It does not measure body fat or health, and BMI is only a rough screening number. For advice about your own weight, talk to your doctor.
